A church faced a sexual abuse lawsuit many years after an employee committed sex crimes against a minor parishioner. The church then sought insurance coverage from one of its liability insurers to defend and indemnify against the lawsuit. The liability insurance company sought to limit its insurance coverage for the church by claiming it only owed a fraction of defense costs or any settlement or judgment against the church. Greg Harper took on the fight with the insurance company. Thereafter, the insurance company did an immediate 180-degree turn—conceding that its obligations were not limited. Soon after, the insurance company provided a full defense to the church and ultimately settled all sexual abuse claims against the church.
